REAR PACKAGE TRAY/SPEAKER RATTLE/BUZZ
WITH THE RADIO ON-BUILT ON OR BEFORE
12/9/2009
FORD:
2010 Taurus
ISSUE
Some 2010 Taurus vehicles built on or before 12/9/2009 and equipped with a Sony(R) audio system may experience a package tray or rear speaker buzz/rattle with the radio on. This concern could be caused by loose or incorrectly installed parcel shelf foam blocks, parcel shelf cushion, sunshade assembly or an audio amplifier distortion concern.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
The revised amplifier software will not eliminate all rattle symptoms, but will significantly reduce the concern.
1. Turn on radio and adjust volume to induce the buzz/rattle noise.
2. If vehicle is not equipped with a sunshade, proceed to Step 4.
3. If vehicle is equipped with a sunshade, apply pressure to various locations of the sunshade using your hands.
a. If buzz/rattle stops when applying pressure:
(1) Replace the sunshade. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-05.
(2) After installing the parcel shelf, lift upward on the opening just behind the sunshade.
(3) Apply PVC (soft foam) tape to the right and left side just above the round sunshade arms. Soft foam tape is available in the Rotunda Squeak and Rattle Repair Kit, Rotunda number 164-R4900. (Figure 1) Proceed to Step 4.
b. It is very important that all of the foam blocks, Velcro(R) and parcel shelf pin-type retainers are attached correctly during reinstallation of the parcel shelf.
c. If the buzz/rattle noise is not gone, proceed to Step 4.
4. Reprogram the digital signal processor (DSP) module to the latest calibration using IDS release 65.08 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2010.1 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.
a. Install IDS and ID the vehicle.
b. Select Module Programming.
c. Select Module Reprogramming and select DSP module.
