Lighting - Center Mount Brake Lamp Repair/Replacement

CENTER HIGH MOUNT STOPLAMP
REPAIR/REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE
FORD:
2010-2011 Taurus
ISSUE
If the center high mount stoplamp (CHMSL) for 2010 or 2011 Ford Taurus vehicles requires replacement or repair, a new procedure and new parts are being released to permit repair at a lower level.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove center high mount stoplamp. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 417-01.
a. Use a razor blade to cut the adhesive from the rear glass to remove the bracket.
NOTE
BRACKETS SHOULD BE REPLACED AS A SET.
2. Using a razor blade, remove residual adhesive from rear window taking care not to scratch the glass or ceramic coating.
3. Using a clean cloth, wipe the regions contacted by the brackets.
4. Apply Dow Automotive Betaseal(TM) 43517 glass primer to a separate clean cloth, then use the cloth to apply primer to the glass on the regions contacted by the brackets. (Figure 1)
NOTE
DOW CHEMICAL BETASEAL(TM) 43517 GLASS PRIMER HAS A LIMITED SHELF LIFE AND MUST BE OBTAINED DIRECTLY FROM A DISTRIBUTOR. DO NOT USE PRIMER THAT HAS AGED BEYOND THE EXPIRATION DATE.
a. If primer is open, the open time is 4 hours. If primer container is resealed, the primer is good for 24 hours.
b. Refer to bracket orientation. (Figure 2)
5. Remove protective film liner from new high mount stoplamp brackets and adhere to glass by centering the bracket within the corner marks on the glass. Press firmly applying approximately 15 lbs (1.05 kg) of force for 15 seconds.
6. Install high mount stoplamp. Refer to WSM, Section 417-01.
