1. NOTE: The Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) is part of the front passenger seat track assembly and is not serviced separately.
Remove the front passenger seat track.
Seat with bladder Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) system
NOTICE: To prevent system failure, it is necessary to carry out the Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) system reset when a front passenger seat cushion is disassembled, a new seat cushion cover installed or an OCS system service kit is installed. A scan tool is used to carry out the OCS system reset.
NOTE: An OCS system service kit has the electrical connector glued to the Occupant Classification System Module (OCSM). It cannot and should not be disconnected or altered.
NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition is ON.
NOTE: The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
2. Remove the front passenger seat cushion cover. For additional information, refer to Front Seat Cushion Cover in the Removal and Installation portion of Seats.
3. NOTE: Power seat track on top, manual below.
Separate the pressure sensor.
- Bend the locking tab down.
- Slide the pressure sensor off of the bracket.
- For an OEM OCS system, disconnect the pressure sensor electrical connector.
4. NOTE: Power seat track on top, manual below.
Remove the OCSM.
- For manual seat track, bend the locking tab down.
- Remove the 2 screws.
- For an OEM OCS system, disconnect the OCSM electrical connector.
5. If equipped, disconnect the seat cushion heater mat electrical connector and separate the wire harness retainer.
6. NOTE: Note position of the pressure sensor hose routing for installation.
Remove the OCS system from the seat cushion frame.
- Feed the OCS system components out of the opening in the seat cushion frame.
- Remove the seat cushion foam.
- Detach the pin-type retainers and bladder from the seat cushion frame.
Installation
1. If equipped, install a new heater mat onto a new OCS service kit foam pad.
1. Position the heater mat wire harness through the foam pad.
2. Position the cushion heater mat onto the cushion foam pad and tuck the heater mat into the foam pad trenches.
- Make sure the openings in the cushion heater mat align to the wires in the foam pad.
3. Make sure the cushion heater mat stays in place, remove the paper strips from under the cushion heater mat and adhere to the foam pad, laying it flat with no wrinkles.
2. WARNING: Install a new occupant classification sensor (OCS) system service kit as a complete assembly. Never install only part of the kit components. Failure to follow this instruction may result in incorrect operation of the OCS system and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
NOTICE: Failure to correctly route the Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) system components may cause component failure and incorrect operation of the OCS system.
Feed the OCS system components through the cushion support wires.
3. Install the OCSM in the following sequence.
1. Bend the locking tab up (if equipped).
2. Slide the OCSM over the locking tab (if equipped) and back into position.
3. Install the 2 screws.
- For an OEM OCS system, connect the electrical connector.
4. For a service kit OCS system, tie-strap the unused OCS pressure sensor electrical connectors aside.
5. Attach the pressure sensor in the following sequence.
1. Bend the locking tab up.
2. Slide the pressure sensor on the bracket and engage the locking tab.
6. If equipped, connect the seat cushion heater mat electrical connector and attach the wire harness to the seat track.
7. Install the front passenger seat cushion cover. For additional information, refer to Front Seat Cushion Cover in the Removal and Installation portion of Seats.
8. Repower the SRS. Do not prove out the SRS. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures.
9. Carry out OCS system reset. For additional information, refer to Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) System Reset Programming and Relearning.
10. NOTE: A prepaid return postcard is provided with a new OCS system service kit. The serial number for the new part and the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) must be recorded and sent to Ford Motor Company.
If a new OCS system service kit was installed, fill out the necessary information on the OCS system traceability card and return it along with the complete inoperative OCS system to Ford Motor Company.
- When returning the inoperative OCS system, include: foam pad, bladder, OCSM, pressure sensor, hose, electrical connectors and wire harness (OCS system service kit OCS only).
