Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)
Principles of Operation
NOTE: The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).
NOTE: When installing a new SJB, it must be configured for this feature, if originally equipped. When the Programmable Module Installation (PMI) procedure is carried out, the configuration is automatically loaded into the new module. Refer to Information Bus.
The DRL feature (when active) energizes the high beam shutters and provides voltage to the headlamp bulbs in series. This gives the appearance of the high beams illuminated at a reduced intensity.
The SJB controls the DRL by using various inputs to determine whether or not the DRL should be illuminated. These inputs include:
- Ignition switch position
- Headlamp switch position
- Headlamps on or off
- Transaxle gear selection
The SJB can be configured to turn the DRL on only for vehicles equipped with halogen headlamps. Refer to Information Bus for programmable parameter information.
