Extension Housing Seal
Removal
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Vehicle Jacking and Lifting.
2. Remove the driveshaft. For additional information, refer to Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings and Joints.
3. Using a suitable transmission jack, support the transmission.
4. Remove the 4 transmission crossmember-to-floor pan screws only and lower the transmission enough to gain access to the extension housing seal.
5. Remove and discard the transmission output shaft flange nut.
6. Using the Output Flange Remover, remove the output shaft flange.
7. Using the Torque Converter Fluid Seal Remover and Slide Hammer, remove and discard the extension housing seal.
Installation
1. NOTE: Make sure the extension housing seal is correctly installed onto the Drive Pinion Oil Seal Installer and the garter spring is in the correct position.
Using the Drive Pinion Oil Seal Installer, install the new extension housing seal.
2. Using the Output Shaft Flange Installer and the Drive Pinion Flange Installer, install the output flange.
3. Install a new transmission output shaft flange nut.
- Tighten to 130 Nm (96 lb-ft).
4. Install the 4 transmission crossmember-to-floor pan screws only.
- Tighten to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).
5. Install the driveshaft. For additional information, refer to Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings and Joints.
