This article supersedes TSB 9-15-10 to update the Title, Issue Statement, Service Procedure and Service Labor Time Standard.
ISSUE
Some 2010 Fusion and Milan vehicles built before 7/26/2009 and equipped with 2.5L engines may exhibit intermittent conditions of hard start or long crank time. These conditions are present when cycling the key into the start position. The vehicle may also exhibit one touch instant start (OTIS) time out concern with no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) present. These intermittent conditions may be caused by radio frequency interference (RFI) intermittently corrupting the crankshaft position sensor (CKP) signal input while cranking.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Replace existing ground strap with revised capacitor ground strap.
1. Remove existing ground strap located on right hand side strut tower and discard.
2. Install revised capacitor ground strap. (Figure 1)
NOTE
IT MAY BE REQUIRED TO CLEAN THE EXISTING FASTENERS AND SURFACES WITH A WIRE BRUSH AND SHOP AIR. FAILURE TO CLEAN THESE MOUNTING SURFACES, MAY CAUSE POOR CONNECTIONS.
3. Tighten both capacitor ground strap fasteners to 89 lb-in (10 N.m).
