Removal - Transaxle
Transaxle
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Vehicle Jacking and Lifting.
2. Remove the battery tray. For additional information, refer to Battery.
3. Remove the Air Cleaner (ACL) assembly. For additional information, refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction.
4. Disconnect the shift cables from the transaxle shift control lever, using a suitable tool to lightly pry them off the transaxle shift control lever.
5. NOTICE: Carefully pry the retainer on the shift cables. Do not damage the shift cable retainers. Using a small screwdriver push from the back.
Disconnect the shift cables from the transaxle bracket.
6. Install the Engine Support Bar.
7. Detach the wire harness from the transaxle.
8. Remove the 3 upper transaxle-to-engine bolts.
9. NOTE: If one or both of the mount studs are removed or come out, do not reinstall the old stud(s). Install a new stud(s). Make sure the studs are properly seated in the case, even if they were not replaced.
Remove the transaxle rear support insulator nuts and the transaxle rear support insulator bolt.
10. Remove the 7 bolts and the splash shield.
11. NOTE: If disassembly of the transaxle is required, remove the drain plug and drain the transaxle.
Remove the drain plug and drain the transaxle.
12. Once fluid has drained, install the drain plug.
- Tighten to 49 Nm (36 lb-ft).
13. Remove the 2 clutch tube hydraulic line bracket bolts.
14. Remove the 2 bolts and position the clutch slave cylinder aside.
15. Disconnect the reverse lamp switch electrical connector.
16. Remove the starter motor. For additional information, refer to Starting System.
17. Remove the engine roll restrictor and bracket.
1. Remove the roll restrictor-to-subframe though bolt.
2. Remove the roll restrictor bracket through bolt.
3. Remove the roll restrictor.
4. Remove the roll restrictor bracket bolts.
5. Remove the roll restrictor bracket.
18. Disconnect the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) electrical connector.
19. Remove the front subframe. For additional information, refer to Frame.
20. NOTE: Apply the brake to keep the halfshaft from rotating.
Remove and discard the RH and LH wheel hub nuts.
21. Using the Front Wheel Hub Remover, separate the LH and RH halfshafts from the wheel hubs.
22. Using the Halfshaft Remover and Slide Hammer, separate the LH halfshaft from the transmission.
23. Use a brass drift to strike the RH halfshaft in the indicated area and separate the RH halfshaft from the intermediate shaft.
24. Remove the LH and RH halfshafts.
25. Remove the 2 intermediate shaft support bracket bolts.
26. NOTICE: Use care when removing the intermediate shaft or damage to the transaxle seals may occur.
Carefully remove the intermediate shaft while supporting both ends of the intermediate shaft.
27. Remove and discard the LH halfshaft circlip and the intermediate shaft circlip.
28. Install a Transmission Jack. Secure the transaxle to the Transmission Jack with a safety strap.
29. Remove the clutch housing-to-oil pan bolt.
30. Remove the 2 oil pan-to-clutch housing bolts.
31. Remove the remaining 4 transaxle-to-engine bolts.
32. Move the transaxle away from the engine and lower it from the vehicle.
