Headliner: Service and Repair




Headliner - Taurus X

NOTE: Vehicle shown with DVD system and roof opening panel options, all other vehicles similar.










Removal and Installation

1. Depower the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). For additional information, refer to Air Bag Systems.

2. If equipped, remove the DVD system.

3. Remove the LH and RH A-pillar trim panels. For additional information, refer to A-Pillar Trim Panel A-Pillar Trim Panel.

4. Remove the LH and RH scuff plate trim panels. For additional information, refer to Scuff Plate Trim Panel Service and Repair.

5. Remove the LH and RH B-pillar trim panels. For additional information, refer to B-Pillar Trim Panel B-Pillar Trim Panel.

6. Remove the LH and RH C-pillar trim panels. For additional information, refer to C-Pillar Trim Panel - Taurus X C-Pillar Trim Panel.

7. Remove the LH and RH D-pillar trim panels. For additional information, refer to D-Pillar Trim Panel - Taurus X D-Pillar Trim Panel.

8. Remove the power liftgate rod.

9. Remove the LH and RH quarter trim panels. For additional information, refer to Quarter Trim Panel .

10. Remove the 3 assist handles from the headliner.
- Position the assist handle downward.

- Remove the assist handle screws.





11. Remove the LH and RH sun visors.
- Remove the 6 sun visor retaining screws.

- If equipped, disconnect the electrical connectors.

12. Remove the LH and RH sun visor clips.
- Remove the sun visor clip screws.

- Remove the sun visor clips.

13. If equipped, disconnect the electrical connector from the interior rear view mirror.

14. If equipped, disconnect the electrical connector from the compass sensor.

15. If equipped, partially lower the front of the headliner and disconnect the roof opening panel electrical connector.

16. Disconnect the electrical connectors located on the LH and RH A-pillars.
- Remove the wiring harness pin-type retainers.

17. NOTE: Plug the rear window washer hose to avoid washer fluid leakage.

Disconnect the rear window washer hose connector located on the RH A-pillar.

18. NOTE: Plug the rear window washer hose to avoid washer fluid leakage.

Disconnect the rear window washer hose connector and the electrical connector located on the RH D-pillar.





19. Disconnect the electrical connector located on the LH D-pillar.





20. Remove the liftgate opening weatherstrip.

21. Remove the 3 headliner pin-type retainers from the rear of the headliner.

22. NOTICE: Make sure to correctly protect (masking tape) the headliner to avoid damage to the headliner from the exposed weatherstrip butyl.

NOTICE: Some bending of the headliner edges may be required to fit the A-pillar and D-pillar areas through the liftgate opening. If it is necessary to bend the headliner, always bend away from the fabric surface to avoid creasing the headliner surface.

Remove the headliner.

- Lower the headliner.

- Remove the headliner through the liftgate opening.

23. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
