External Controls
The indicated position of the transmission selector lever is transferred to the transmission through the transmission selector lever cable and down to the manual control lever on the transmission.
Brake Shift Interlock Actuator (BSIA)
A Brake Shift Interlock Actuator (BSIA) system is used on vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. This system is used to prevent moving the transmission selector lever from the PARK position unless the brake pedal is applied. When the BSIA is de-energized, the transmission selector lever is locked in the PARK position. When the brake pedal is applied, the BSIA is energized and the transmission selector lever can be moved from the PARK position.
Transmission Control Switch (TCS)
The Transmission Control Switch (TCS) is a momentary contact switch that is located on the transmission selector lever. Pushing the TCS will disengage or engage the Overdrive (O/D) function of the automatic transmission. If O/D is disengaged, the icon O/D OFF will illuminate on the Instrument Cluster (IC).
