This article supersedes TSB 08-19-10 to update the Title, Issue and Service Procedure.
ISSUE
Some 2009 Mustang vehicles equipped with a 4.0L engine and having an engine built date from 5/4/2008-5/14/2008 may experience a malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) PO3Ox, P0300, P0316, P0172, P0175 or drivability concerns, such as misfire and/or runs rough.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
This may be caused by a damaged or missing fuel injector orifice plate. (Figure 1)

^ Figure 1-B injector shows what the normal injector orifice plate looks like.
1. Follow the normal diagnostic procedure in the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual.
2. If diagnostics show that the causal part is a fuel injector, remove the causal injector and check the injector build date. Date format is DD-MM-YY. (Figure 2)
a. If the injector date is 22-4-08 as shown in Figure 2, replace all six (6) injectors following Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-04A.
b. If the injector date is not 22-4-08, this procedure does not apply. Continue with normal diagnostics.
