Tension Strut

Tension Strut:

Removal and Installation

CAUTION: Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital components and systems and their failure can result in major service expense. A new part with the same part number, or an equivalent part, must be installed if installation is necessary. Do not use a new part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified to make sure of correct retention of these parts.

NOTE: Note the orientation of the bushings as the tension strut is being removed for assembly reference.

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Remove and discard the tension strut rear nut, then remove the washer and the rear bushing front half.
^ To install, tighten to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.).
3. Remove and discard the tension strut front nut, then remove the washer, the rear bushing front half and the sleeve.

4. Position the wheel spindle to the rear, then remove the tension strut.
5. Remove the 2 remaining bushing halves and the 2 washers.

6. NOTE: The bushings at the front and rear of the tension strut are different sizes and shapes. Make sure the bushings are installed correctly.

NOTE: The cupped side of the washers must face away from the bushings.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
^ Always install new tension strut nuts.
