Removal
CAUTION: Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital components and systems and their failure can result in major service expense. A new part with the same part number, or an equivalent part, must be installed if installation is necessary. Do not use a new part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified to make sure of correct retention of these parts.
All vehicles
1. Remove the hub cap or wheel cover.
2. Measure the distance from the center of the hub to the lip of the fender with the vehicle in a level, static ground position (curb height).
3. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
Front lower control arms
4. Remove the parking brake cable bracket bolt.
5. Detach the parking brake cable and, if equipped, the rear anti-lock brake sensor wiring harness.
Front and rear lower control arms
6. Remove the lower control arm-to-spindle nut, washer and flag bolt, then detach the lower control arm from the spindle.
^ Discard the nut and flag bolt.
Front lower control arm
7. Remove and discard the lower control arm-to-body nut and flag bolt, then remove the front lower control arm and the adjusting cam.
Rear lower control arm
8. Remove and discard the lower control arm-to-body nut and flag bolt then remove the rear lower control arm.
Installation
NOTE: When installing lower control arms, the offset must face up. The arms are stamped "BOTTOM" on the lower edge. The flanges of the rear lower control arm must face the front of the vehicle. The flanges of the front control arms must face the rear of the vehicle.
Rear lower control arm
1. Position the rear lower control arm, install a new flag bolt and a new lower control arm-to-body nut.
^ Do not tighten the nut at this time.
Front lower control arm
2. Position the front lower control arm and the adjusting cam, install a new flag bolt and a new lower control arm-to-body nut.
^ Do not tighten the nut at this time.
3. NOTE: The adjusting cam is in the neutral position when the notch is at the 6 o'clock position.
Position the adjusting cam in the NEUTRAL position.
Front and rear lower control arms
4. Position the control arm and install a new flag bolt, washer and a new lower control arm-to-spindle nut.
5. Using a jack stand, raise the suspension until the distance between the center of the hub and the lip of the fender is equal to the measurement taken in the removal procedure (curb height).
6. Tighten the lower control arm-to-spindle nut to 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.).
7. Tighten the lower control arm-to-body nut to 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.).
8. Lower the suspension and remove the jack stand.
Front lower control arm
9. Attach the parking brake cable and, if equipped, the rear ABS sensor wiring harness.
