Muffler: Service and Repair

Muffler and Tailpipe

Removal
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Maintenance/Service and Repair.
2. Support the exhaust system with a suitable jack stand.





3. Remove the left side rear suspension control arm(s).
4. Remove the 2 nuts and separate the catalytic converter from the muffler and tailpipe.
^ Discard the muffler clamp.
5. Detach the 3 exhaust hanger isolators and remove the muffler and tailpipe from the vehicle.

Installation
1. Connect the muffler and tailpipe to the catalytic converter and attach the 3 exhaust hanger isolators.
2. Install the muffler clamp and the 2 nuts.
^ Tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs).
3. Install the left rear suspension control arm(s).
^ Check and, if necessary, adjust the alignment.
