SEAT RECLINER

Removal

WARNING:
- Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) vehicle and when handling an air bag module. This will reduce the risk of injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
- Never probe the connectors on the air bag module. Doing so can result in air bag deployment, which can result in personal injury.
- The safety belt pretensioner is a pyrotechnic device. Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag equipped vehicle and when handling a safety belt buckle pretensioner or safety belt retractor pretensioner. Never probe a pretensioner electrical connector. Doing so could result in pretensioner or air bag deployment and could result in personal injury.
- To reduce the risk of personal injury, do not use any memory saver devices.

NOTE:
- If a seat equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS) component is being serviced, the SRS must be depowered.
- The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the RCM fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.
- The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

1. Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
2. Remove the recliner handle.
3. Remove the screw from the outer side shield.







4. Carefully pull the outer side shield outward releasing the 2 hidden retainer clips to the inner side shield (as shown) and the 2 hidden retainer clips to the recliner mechanism.







5. Remove the outer side shield.
1 Carefully pull out on the side of the outer side shield, releasing the clips to the inner side shield and one hidden clip at the side of the seat cushion frame.
2 Carefully pull forward on the side shield releasing the hidden clip at the front of the seat cushion frame.
3 While routing the wire harness out of the seat cushion frame (if equipped), slide the side shield forward to clear the recliner handle and remove the outer side shield.

6. Remove the inner side shield.
7. Unfasten the J-clip and partially invert the backrest trim cover to access the 2 recliner bolts.
8. Remove the 2 recliner-to-backrest bolts.
9. Remove the 2 recliner-to-seat track bolts and recliner.

Installation
1. Position the recliner to the seat track and install the 2 bolts.
- Tighten to 52 Nm (38 lb-ft).

2. Align the backrest to the recliner and install the 2 bolts.
- Tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).

3. Position the backrest trim cover and fasten the J-clip.
4. Position the inner side shield to the seat.







5. Install the outer side shield to the seat.

1 NOTE: Route the seat control switch (if equipped) electrical harness through the side of the seat while positioning the outer side shield to the seat.

Position the outer side shield to the seat and push in where indicated to install the retaining clips.

2 Squeeze the inner and outer side shields together to seat the clips.

6. Install the outer side shield screw.

7. NOTE: Heat the handle prior to installation.

Install the recliner handle.

8. Repower the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
