TSB 08-2-402/04/08
MANUAL TRANSMISSION SHIFTER BOOT NOISE -
BUILT BEFORE 1216/2007
FORD:
2005-2008 Mustang, Mustang
ISSUE
Some 2005-2008 Mustang vehicles equipped with a manual transmission (excluding GT500), and built before 12/6/2007, may exhibit a tick noise from the shifter boot in forward gears 1st, 3rd, and 5th.
ACTION
The noise is caused by the boot material rubbing against itself. Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Place paper/tissue/fingers in material crease to verify noise is coming from the shifter boot material. If noise is eliminated, then replace shifter boot with latest level service part. If noise is not eliminated, then TSB does not apply. Proceed with normal Workshop Manual (WSM) diagnostics.
1. Unscrew the shifter knob.
2. Un-snap the boot from the console and lift off. Do not use tools to pry off, this may scratch the console.
3. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
