Interior - Carpet Removal/Replacement Procedure

CARPET REMOVE AND REPLACE

FORD:
2005-2007 Mustang

ISSUE
Some 2005-2007 Mustang vehicles may need to have the carpet replaced for various issues. The following procedure will allow the carpet to be removed and replaced without removing the heater / air conditioning plenum, instrument panel, or restraints control module (RCM).

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure to remove and install the carpet without removing the heater / air conditioning plenum or the RCM.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Removal

1. Remove front and rear seats per Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-10.

2. Remove center console per WSM, Section 501-12.

3. Remove interior quarter trim panels per WSM, Section 501-05.

4. Remove door opening scuff plates per WSM, Section 501-05.

5. Remove front A pillar lower trim panels (kick panels) per WSM, Section 501-05.

6. Remove seat belt lower attachments (anchor bolts) per WSM, Section 501-20A.

7. Disconnect the carpet "J" channel retainers at the door openings.

8. Where carpet goes underneath the RCM on the center console and heater / air conditioning plenum assembly, use a sharp knife or scissors and cut the carpeting to allow the carpet to be pulled from underneath the components.

9. Remove carpet from vehicle.

Installation








1. Using scissors, cut the new carpeting in the areas shown. (Figure 1 and Figure 2)








2. Clean the area using an alcohol swab or rag and then apply a thin layer of Motorcraft Trim and Weatherstrip Adhesive on the carpet backing. (Figure 3 and Figure 4) Allow to dry for 5 minutes.

3. Apply a 3" by 1" strip of self adhesive Velcro (both halves-obtain locally) to the areas shown. (Figures 3 and 4)

4. Install carpeting into vehicle.

5. Remove the protective cover from the Velcro strip and carefully insert the carpet under the RCM. Press the Velcro into place.

6. Remove the protective cover from the Velcro strip and carefully insert the carpet under the heater/air conditioning plenum assembly. Press the Velcro into place.

7. Reinstall the seat belts, interior trim, and seats per WSM 501-20A.
