Normal Operation
The fuel level is determined using a variable resistance fuel level sending unit, with an approximate resistance range between 15 ohms at empty (E) and 160 ohms at full (F). The fuel level sending unit is hardwired to the flex-fuel sensor module through signal circuit 29 (YE/WH) and the return circuit 398 (BK/YE). The flex-fuel sensor module is hardwired to the instrument cluster through circuit 27 (OG/LG). The instrument cluster monitors the resistance readings that are sent to the instrument cluster from the flex-fuel sensor module and commands the fuel gauge with a corresponding movement of the pointer. The instrument cluster sets DTC B1202 and B1204 if the fuel pump circuits are open or shorted to ground.
Possible Causes
- circuit 27 (OG/LG) open or short to ground
- circuit 29 (YE/WH) open or short to ground
- circuit 398 (BK/YE) open
- fuel level sensor
- fuel tank
- flex-fuel sensor module
- instrument cluster
