Heater Core: Service and Repair

HEATER CORE

Removal and Installation

All vehicles

NOTE: If a heater core leak is suspected, the heater core must be pressure leak tested before it is removed from the vehicle.

1. Drain the engine coolant.
2. Remove the instrument panel. Refer to: Body and Frame, Interior Moulding/Trim, Dashboard/Instrument Panel, Service and Repair, Procedures, Service and Repair







3. Remove the right-side cowl vent screen.







4. Remove the 2 screws and the water shield.
5. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core.

Vehicles with EATC







6. Remove the remote climate control (RCC) module.
1 Disconnect the RCC module electrical connector.
2 Remove the 2 nuts and disconnect the vacuum harness.
3 Remove the 2 screws.

All vehicles







7. Remove the 2 screws and shield.







8. Remove the temperature blend door actuator.
1 Disconnect the temperature blend door actuator electrical connector.
2 Remove the 3 screws.
3 Remove the temperature blend door actuator.







9. Remove the temperature blend door assist spring.







10. CAUTION: Do not attempt to bend any part of the supplemental temperature blend door lever.

Remove the supplemental temperature blend lever shaft.
1 Depress the tab and remove the supplemental temperature blend lever shaft from the supplemental blend door.
2 Rotate and remove the supplemental blend door pivot shaft from the metal link.







11. Remove the metal link from the temperature blend door pivot shaft.







12. Remove the heater core cover.
1 Remove the 3 screws.
2 Rotate the temperature blend door pivot shaft.
3 Remove the heater core cover and seal.







13. Remove the heater core.
1 Rotate the blend door pivot shaft.
2 Remove the heater core.

14. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Lubricate the coolant hoses with plain water only, if needed.

15. Fill the engine cooling system.
