Valve Cover - LH
Valve Cover - LHMaterial:
Removal
CAUTION: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Battery.
2. Remove the ignition coil. For additional information, refer to Ignition System.
3. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose from the air cleaner outlet pipe.
4. Release the 5 wiring harness retainers from the valve cover studs and position the wiring harness aside.
5. Detach the spark plug wire retainers from the valve cover stud bolts and position the wires aside.
6. NOTE: To prevent stretching the valve cover gasket, loosen silicone gasket and sealant from the cylinder head by sliding a flat knife between the valve cover gasket and cylinder head.
Remove the 8 stud bolts and the LH valve cover.
Installation
1. NOTE: Do not clean the valve cover gasket with solvent. Damage to the valve cover gasket may occur.
Using metal surface cleaner, clean the cylinder head mating surfaces.
2. NOTE: If the RH valve cover is not secured within 4 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with metal surface cleaner. Allow to dry until there is no sign of wetness or 4 minutes, whichever is longer. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.
Apply a bead of silicone gasket and sealant in 2 places where the cylinder head and intake manifold meet.
3. Install the valve cover gasket, if removed.
4. Install the LH valve cover and 8 stud bolts.
^ Tighten to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.).
5. Attach the spark plug wire retainers to the valve cover stud bolts.
6. Position the wiring harness and attach the 5 wiring harness retainers to the valve cover studs.
7. Connect the crankcase ventilation hose to the air cleaner outlet pipe.
8. Install the ignition coil. For additional information, refer to Ignition System.
9. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Battery.
