Removal and Installation

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Maintenance/Service and Repair.
2. NOTE: Hold the rod while turning the adjustment nut.
Slacken the parking brake cable.
3. Disconnect the RH rear parking brake cable and conduit.
4. Disconnect the LH rear parking brake cable and conduit.
5. Compress the retainer and remove the parking brake equalizer.
6. Compress the retainer and detach the RH rear parking brake cable and conduit from the lower control arm.
7. Remove the brake drum.
8. Disconnect the parking brake cable.
9. NOTE: It is necessary to remove only the primary (front) brake shoe.
Remove the primary brake shoe.
10. Compress the retainer and pull the parking brake cable and conduit out of the brake backing plate.
11. Remove the bolt and the cable and conduit.
12. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
^ Make sure the snap-in retainers are securely locked in place.
^ Carry out the Parking Brake Cable Adjustment.
