Brake Shoe: Service and Repair
Brake ShoesRemoval
1. Remove the brake drum.
2. Inspect the rear brake assembly for:
1. The rear wheel cylinder for leakage.
2. The rear brake shoes and linings for contamination, and install new as necessary.
^ Inspect the rear brake shoes and linings for minimum thickness, above the backing plate or rivets, and install new as necessary.
3. The springs for heat discoloration and install new as necessary.
4. The adjusting lever contact with the brake adjuster screw.
3. Remove the brake shoe adjusting screw spring.
4. Remove the brake adjuster lever.
5. Remove the brake adjuster screw.
6. Remove the brake shoe hold-down spring.
7. Remove the brake shoe and the retracting spring.
8. Remove the brake shoe hold-down spring.
9. Remove the brake shoe and lining.
10. Remove and discard the parking brake lever clip.
11. Remove the brake shoe and lining from the parking brake lever.
12. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
