Normal Operation
The passive anti-theft system (PATS) transceiver communicates with the PATS key. During each vehicle start sequence, the transceiver reads the PATS key identification code and circuit 1216 (GY/OG) sends the data to the powertrain control module (PCM). All PATS control functions are contained in the PCM. This module carries out all of the PATS functions such as receiving the identification code from the PATS key and controlling engine enable. The PCM initiates the key interrogation sequence when the key is turned to the ON or START position.

Possible Causes
- less than 2 keys programmed to the system
- PATS transceiver
- unprogrammed PATS key
- PCM
