Removal and Installation

WARNING: All vehicles are equipped with gas-pressurized struts which will extend unassisted. Do not apply heat or flame to the struts during removal or component servicing. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.

CAUTION: Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital components and systems and their failure can result in major service expense. A new part with the same part number or an equivalent part must be installed, if installation is necessary. Do not use a part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to ensure proper retention of these parts.

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.





3. Remove the bolt and the ABS sensor.





4. Remove the brake line bracket bolt and disconnect the ABS sensor wire from the bracket.
^ To install, tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).






5. CAUTION: Use the hex-holding feature to prevent the studs from turning while removing or installing the stabilizer bar link nuts.

Remove and discard the stabilizer bar link upper nut.
^ To install, tighten to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.).

6. Disconnect the link from the strut.
7. Using a jack stand, support the lower control arm.






8. WARNING: All vehicles are equipped with gas-pressurized shock absorbers which will extend unassisted. Do not apply heat or flame to the shock absorbers during removal or component servicing. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.

Index mark the 2 strut bolts, then remove the strut bolts and nuts.
^ To install, tighten to 200 Nm (148 ft. lbs.).






9. CAUTION: Damage to the lower control arm bushings may occur if the lower control arm is not supported.

Carefully lower the front suspension lower arm then remove the 4 strut-to-body nuts.
^ To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).

10. Remove the strut and spring assembly from the vehicle.
^ To install, the notch and the arrow etched into the upper bearing assembly must face the outboard side of the vehicle.

11. Separate the strut assembly and spring.
12. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
^ Always install a new stabilizer bar link upper nut.

13. Check wheel alignment and adjust if necessary.
