Rear Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair


NOTE: A one-piece crankshaft rear oil seal is used for replacement on all engines. If replacement is necessary, this type of crankshaft rear oil seal MUST BE used. The complete crankshaft rear oil seal can be replaced without removing the crankshaft.

Removal
1. Remove flywheel.

2. CAUTION: Avoid scratching or damaging the oil seal sealing surfaces on crankshaft and cylinder block.





Position Rear Crankshaft Seal Remover 303-519 (T95P-6701-EH) on end of crankshaft. Rotate seal remover clockwise to thread seal remover into seal lip until tight.





3. Install Impact Slide Hammer 100-001 (T50T-100-A) into seal remover, and pull seal from crankcase bore.

Installation
1. Clean and inspect crankshaft rear oil seal sealing surfaces on crankshaft and cylinder block.
2. Lubricate crankshaft flange and crankshaft rear oil seal bore with Super Premium SAE 5W30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G.





3. Install crankshaft rear oil seal using Rear Main Seal Replacer 303-178 (T82L-6701-A) and Rear Crank Seal Replacer Adapters 303-384 (T91P-6701-A). Alternate bolt tightening to properly seat the crankshaft rear oil seal 0.5-0.0 mm (0.020-0.0 inch) flush to rear of cylinder block.
4. Install flywheel.
5. Run engine and check for leaks.
