Camshaft: Description and Operation
The four camshafts are:
^ installed onto the cylinder heads and supported in the cylinder head camshaft journals.
^ connected by two secondary timing chains from the exhaust camshafts to the intake camshafts.
^ limited in end play and thrust loads by the No. 1 cylinder head camshaft journal caps.
Valve Train
The valve train operates as follows:
^ Valve tappets provide lash adjustment by removable shims.
^ The valve tappets ride on the camshaft lobes, transferring the camshaft's up and down motion to the valves in the cylinder heads.
