Attachment III - Technical Information

AFFECTED VEHICLES:
CERTAIN 1999 MODEL YEAR TAURUS AND SABLE LEV'S WITH 3.0L 2 VALVE ENGINES AND AX4N TRANSMISSIONS

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Install memory saver, then disconnect the battery negative cable.

2. Raise and support the vehicle.

3. Remove the radiator splash shield.





4. Loosen the screw clamp and disconnect the transaxle cooler outlet line from the auxiliary cooler. Refer to Figure 1.

5. Loosen the screw clamp and disconnect the transaxle cooler inlet line from the radiator line. Refer to Figure 1.





6. Remove the routing clips from the transaxle cooler lines. See Figure 2.





7. The cooler line fittings on the transaxle are of the quick disconnect type. Disconnect the transaxle cooler inlet line from the transaxle. Refer to Figure 3. Remove the line from the vehicle.

8. Disconnect the transaxle cooler outlet line from the transaxle. See Figure 3. Remove the line from the vehicle.

9. Reverse the procedure to assemble, noting the following:

^ Tighten the screw clamps on the hose side of the lines to 2.2 Nm (19 lb-in).

^ With the engine idling, check the transaxle cooler lines for leaks. Top off the transaxle fluid.
