Removal and Installation

Removal
NOTE: The power steering pump is serviced as an assembly. If any service is required the entire power steering pump assembly must be replaced.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove drive belt.
3. Remove generator.
4. Drain and remove radiator coolant recovery reservoir.
5. Remove power steering return hose from power steering pump and drain the fluid into a clean container.
6. Remove power steering pressure hose from power steering pump and drain the fluid into a container.
7. Remove idler pulley from power steering pump support.
8. Remove power steering bracket mounting bolt located under belt tension mounting.
9. Remove two retaining nuts from power steering bracket mounting studs, remove both mounting studs, and pull off power steering pump support with power steering pump attached.
10. Clamp power steering pump support with power steering pump attached into a vise.
11. Remove power steering pump pulley from power steering pump shaft using Steering Pump Pulley Remover 211-016 (T69L-10300-B).
12. Remove three mounting bolts retaining power steering pump to power steering pump support and remove power steering pump from power steering pump support.
Installation
1. Install power steering pump to power steering pump support with three bolts.
2. NOTE: The small diameter threads of the tool must be fully engaged in pump shaft before pressing on pulley.
Install power steering pump pulley to power steering pump using Steering Pump Pulley Replacer 211-009 (T65P-3A733-C). Screw tool into threads in end of power steering pump shaft. Hold small nut on end of tool and turn large nut to install pulley on shaft. Install pulley face flush with pump shaft within ±0.25 mm (±0.010 inch).
3. Insert both mounting studs through power steering pump support and mount power steering pump support to engine. Thread both mounting studs into engine and install two retaining nuts.
4. Install mounting bolt through power steering pump support into engine.
5. Install idler pulley to power steering pump support.
6. Install power steering pressure hose to power steering pump.
7. Install power steering return hose to power steering pump.
8. Install engine coolant recovery reservoir.
9. Install generator.
10. Install drive belt.
11. Connect battery ground cable and reset radio presets.
12. Fill power steering pump with Motorcraft MERCON Multi-Purpose (ATF) Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX or equivalent meeting Ford MERCON specification and check operation.
13. Start engine and check system for leaks.
14. Turn ignition switch OFF and recheck power steering fluid level. Add fluid as necessary.
