Power Steering Pump: Description and Operation
The Ford Model CII power steering pump has the following features:
- It is a belt-driven, 1O-slipper type pump with a fiberglass-filled nylon power steering oil reservoir.
- It is only replaceable as an assembly.
- It incorporates a drooper pin that reduces pump flow as the rpm is increased.
- The power steering oil reservoir is attached to the rear side of the aluminum power steering pump housing.
- The pump body is encased within the power steering pump housing and power steering oil reservoir.
- The pump design incorporates a pump pressure fitting which allows the power steering pressure hose to swivel. This is normal and does not indicate a loose fitting.
- A pressure-sensitive identification tag is attached to the body of the power steering oil reservoir. This tag indicates the basic model number and the suffix.
