Compressor
REMOVALNOTE:
- Vehicles that have an inoperative A/C compressor, due to internal causes, must have the refrigerant system cleaned by flushing or filtering. This removes any debris or contaminants that may be present to prevent damage to the replacement A/C compressor.
- Whenever the A/C compressor is replaced, the suction accumulator/drier and the A/C evaporator core orifice must also be replaced.
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Recover the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery
3. Raise and support the vehicle.
4. Remove the screws and the radiator air deflector.
5. Remove the screws and the RH engine and transmission splash shield.
6. Remove the drive belt.
7. Disconnect the A/C clutch field coil electrical connector.
8. Loosen the A/C manifold and tube retaining bolt and remove the A/C manifold and tube.
CAUTION: Plug all ports to prevent contamination from dirt or moisture.
9. Remove the bolts and the A/C compressor.
INSTALLATION
1. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.
1 Service the replacement A/C compressor with the proper amount of Motorcraft YN-12b refrigerant oil F2AZ-19577-AB or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.
2 Lubricate the new A/C manifold O-rings with Motorcraft YN-12b refrigerant oil, F2AZ-19577-AB or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.
3 Apply Pipe Sealant with Teflon(R) D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSK-M2G350-A2 and ESR-M18P7-A to the threads of the A/C manifold retaining bolt.
