Fuel Injector: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the strategy.
2. Remove fuel tank filler cap and release fuel tank pressure.
3. Perform fuel pressure release.
4. Remove fuel injection supply manifold.
5. Grasping fuel injector body, pull up while gently rocking fuel injector from side-to-side.
6. Inspect fuel injector O-rings (two per fuel injector) for signs of deterioration and replace as required.
7. Inspect fuel injector end cap, body and washer for signs of dirt and deterioration. Replace fuel injector as required.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION: Never use silicone grease on fuel injector O-rings. It will clog the fuel injectors.
1. Lubricate new O-rings with clean engine oil meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-F.
NOTE: On flexible fuel vehicles, use oil with an API designation of Multi-Fuel Vehicles (MFV).
2. Lightly push and twist fuel injectors into position.
3. Install fuel injection supply manifold.
4. Perform Post-Service Procedures. Post-Service Procedures
