Brake Pedal Height

Brake Pedal Height/Travel Specifications:

1. Have the engine "RUNNING" for full power brake operation and the parking brake control fully released.
2. Insert a slender, sharp-pointed prod through the carpet and sound deadener to the dash foot well metal. Measure the distance to the top of the brake pedal pad on side of brake pedal pad nearest to accelerator pedal (Dimension "A").

NOTE: "A" Dimension to be measured to sheet metal from center of pad nearest accelerator pedal.

"B" Dimension to be measured parallel to the vertical center line of the steering column (Perform checks with engine "RUNNING").

3. Depress brake pedal with a 111 Nm (25 lb) load applied to the center line of the brake pedal pad and measure dimension "B"

NOTE: Vehicles close to the maximum pedal travel specification may be improved by bleeding the brake system.

4. If the position of the brake pedal is not within specification, check the brake pedal for missing, worn, or damaged bushings, or loose retaining bolts. Replace as required. If the pedal free height is still out of specification, check the brake pedal, power brake booster, or brake master cylinder to be sure the correct parts are installed. Replace the worn or damaged parts as necessary.
