Coolant: Service and Repair

DESCRIPTION
A 50/50 mixture of Premium Cooling System Fluid E2FZ-19549-AA or B, in Oregon F5FZ-19549-CC, in Canada, Motorcraft CXC-8-B recycled coolant, or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M97B44-A and water should be added to the radiator coolant recovery reservoir to the specified levels.

PROCEDURES
1. With cold engine, remove radiator cap (8100).
2. With 50/50 mixture of coolant and water, fill coolant and replace radiator cap. Observe the level of fluid in the radiator coolant recovery reservoir. Adjust 50/50 mixture of coolant and water to the FULL COLD mark on the radiator coolant recovery reservoir.
3. Start the engine and run until the water thermostat (8575) opens.
4. Shut off the engine and allow it to cool down. This permits engine coolant to be drawn into the radiator (8005).
5. Observe the engine coolant level in the radiator coolant recovery reservoir. The minimum level should be as specified in Step 2 If not, adjust engine coolant level by adding a 50/50 mixture of coolant and water.
6. Check engine coolant level in radiator when engine has cooled. Radiator should be full. Add a 50/50 mixture of coolant and water if necessary. Repeat Steps 3,4 and 5.
7. Check for leakage at:
a. All hoses and hose connections.
b. Radiator seams, radiator core and radiator draincock (8115).
c. All cylinder block core plugs and drain plugs.
d. Edges of all cooling system gaskets.
e. Transmission oil cooler fittings (if equipped).
f. Vehicle heating system components.
g. Water pump (8501).
8. Examine oil level dipstick (6750) for evidence of engine coolant in engine oil.
9. Check radiator for evidence of transmission fluid in engine coolant (leakage). Install cooling system analyzer to assist in testing the cooling system. Follow the manufacturer's recommended connections and testing procedures.

NOTE: If no engine coolant is observed in the radiator coolant recovery reservoir or when an engine coolant level change does not occur, check the system as follows:

10. With the engine cold, remove the radiator cap, and inspect the filler neck sealing gasket for foreign material between the gasket and diaphragm. Rinse radiator cap in clean water. The radiator cap used on this system is unique; replace only with the proper radiator cap.
11. Remove the radiator overflow hose at the radiator connection. Remove radiator coolant recovery reservoir from front fender apron (16055) and flush with clean water.
12. Inspect the radiator overflow hose for obstructions, cracks or cuts. Replace if necessary.
13. Install radiator coolant recovery reservoir and connect radiator overflow hose at the radiator connection.
14. Replenish the engine coolant in the radiator and add a 50/50 mixture of coolant and water to radiator coolant recovery reservoir as required.
15. Install the radiator cap.
