Accelerator Pedal: Service and Repair

Accelerator Cable (Part 1 Of 2):






Removal
1. Remove two screws retaining accelerator control splash shield to accelerator cable bracket. Remove accelerator control splash shield.

2. Working under dash and using a suitable tool, remove accelerator cable snap-in nylon bushing from accelerator pedal arm.

3. Remove screw retaining accelerator cable housing to accelerator cable bracket.

4. Remove accelerator cable housing from dash panel by removing two screws retaining accelerator cable retainer and accelerator cable to dash panel and pushing outward from inside passenger compartment.

5. Remove cable end from throttle body lever ball stud.

6. Remove screw retaining accelerator cable to accelerator cable bracket. Remove accelerator cable from slot in accelerator cable bracket.

Installation
1. Follow removal procedure in reverse order.

2. Align locator pin in accelerator cable to hole in accelerator cable bracket.

3. Tighten cable-to-bracket screw to 5-7 Nm (45-62 lb in).

4. Tighten screws retaining accelerator cable to dash panel to 1.6-2.2 Nm (15-19 lb.in).

Accelerator Pedal and Shaft

Removal
1. Working under dash and using a suitable tool, push the accelerator cable nylon bushing, from back side of arm, out of the accelerator pedal arm.

2. Remove nuts retaining accelerator pedal and shaft and remove accelerator pedal and shaft.

Installation
1. Follow removal procedure in reverse order.

2. Tighten nuts retaining accelerator pedal and shaft to dash panel to 14-20 N-m (11-14 lb ft) and check pedal for smooth operation.

Accelerator Cable Bracket

Removal
1. Remove accelerator control splash shield.

2. Unwind cable core wire from pulley and slide end fitting out of slot on pulley.

3. If equipped, remove speed control actuator cable from throttle body control lever by sliding cable end up off pin.

3. Remove screw retaining accelerator cable to accelerator cable bracket.

4. If equipped, remove screw retaining speed control actuator cable to accelerator cable bracket.

5. Remove bolts retaining accelerator cable bracket to throttle body.

Installation
1. Follow removal procedure in reverse order.

2. Tighten screws retaining accelerator cable bracket to throttle body to 8-10 N-m (71-88 lb.in)

3. Tighten screws retaining accelerator cable and speed control actuator cable (if equipped) to 5-7 Nm (45-62 lb.in).

4. Tighten screws retaining accelerator control splash shield to accelerator cable bracket to 5-7 Nm (45-62 lb.in)
