Timing Chain: Service and Repair
1. Remove engine front cover.Crankshaft & Oil Pump Timing Mark Alignment:
2. Rotate crankshaft to place number one piston at top dead center by aligning crankshaft keyway groove with oil pump mark.
3. Ensure camshaft sprocket timing marks are on top, and if not, rotate crankshaft one complete revolution.
4. Using a small screwdriver, release tensioner ratchet/pawl mechanism through tensioner access hole. Compress tensioner rack and piston into tensioner housing by inserting a small wire into the top of piston, then gently unseat oil check ball. Compress tensioner by hand, and leave in a compressed state for future installation.
Tensioner Lock Pin Installation:
5. While tensioner is compressed, insert a 0.060 inch drill bit or wire into small hole above ratchet. This engages lock groove in rack of tensioner.
6. Remove timing chain.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Ensure number one cylinder piston is in top dead center position.
