Valve Cover: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove engine appearance cover.
3. Remove righthand half of cowl vent screen.
4. Disconnect main emission vacuum supply hose from surge tank fitting, air injection diverter valve and EGR valve.
5. Disconnect vacuum tube from intake manifold vacuum union.
6. Disconnect EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube from bottom of EGR valve.
7. Position power steering lefthand turn pressure hose aside.
8. Position transducer mounting bracket aside.
9. Remove surge tank.
10. Remove ignition coils.
11. Remove radio ignition capacitor retaining nut.
12. Disconnect crankcase ventilation tube from valve cover.
13. Position engine control sensor wiring aside.
14. Remove valve cover bolts, then the cover.
15. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Clean cover sealing surfaces with a shop towel and metal surface cleaner part F4AZ-19A536-RA, or equivalent.
b. Apply a 0.31 inch diameter bead of silicone rubber sealer part F4AZ-19562-B, or equivalent, on the cover sealing surfaces where engine front cover and cylinder heads contact.
c. The old gasket may be used again if it is not damaged.
d. Position cover on cylinder head within six minutes of sealer application.
