Disassembly

Disc Brake Caliper Assembly:

The illustration is an exploded view of the front disc brake caliper.
1. Remove the front disc brake caliper. Refer to the procedure in this section.
2. Open the bleeder screw and drain the brake fluid from the front disc brake caliper through the front brake hose fitting. After draining the fluid, close the bleeder screw.
3. Remove the front disc brake caliper locating pin dust boots.
4. Position a block of wood or a roll of shop towels between the front disc brake caliper piston and the front disc brake caliper.

WARNING: do not use an excessive amount of air pressure to remove the front disc brake caliper piston. Excessive pressure can force the front disc brake caliper piston out the front disc brake caliper bore with enough force to cause personal injury. Never attempt to catch the front disc brake caliper piston by hand as it comes out of its bore.

Removing Caliper Piston With Air:

CAUTION: Do not use a screwdriver or any other similar tool to pry the front disc brake caliper piston out of its bore. It will result in damage to the front disc brake caliper piston. Cushion the piston's impact against the front disc brake caliper when blowing it out of the bore by placing shop towels or rags between the front disc brake caliper piston and front disc brake caliper bridge.

5. To remove the front disc brake caliper piston, apply air pressure through the front brake hose fitting.

NOTE: Apply only enough air pressure to ease the front disc brake caliper piston out of the front disc brake caliper.

6. Remove and discard the dust cover.

Remove Piston Seal:

7. Remove and discard the piston seal from the front disc brake caliper groove.

CAUTION: Do not remove the seal with a screwdriver or other metal tools. A metal tool can scratch or nick the seal groove resulting in a possible seal leak.

NOTE: Use a plastic or wooden pick to remove the seal.
