^ NOISE - "RATTLE" FROM THE FRONT DOOR GLASS WHEN PARTIALLY OPENED-CARS BUILT BEFORE 6/1/90
FORD: 1989-90 PROBE
ISSUE: A "rattle" from the door glass with the window about half way down may be caused by the center bracket contacting the regulator channel. Although TSB 90-2-2 advised to perform an internal adjustment to the center bracket plate, this procedure may not fix the rattle.
ACTION: Install two (2) foam insulators on the center bracket to isolate the regulator channel from the center bracket. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
1. Confirm that the rattle exists.
a. Lower the glass about half way down.
b. Grasp the top of the glass and move it in and out.
c. If a "clunking" (metal-to-metal rattle) sound is heard, proceed to Step # 2.
2. Remove the door trim panel and water shield. Refer to the Probe Shop Manual, Section 45-03, for removal procedure.
3. Inspect and tighten all nuts and bolts securing the front and rear glass guides, window regulator and glass center bracket.
4. Repeat Step # 1 while observing the internal parts for looseness.

5. Identify the regulator components, Figure 2.

NOTE: THE SLIDER CENTER BRACKET AND LOWER GUIDE PLATE, FIGURE 1, MUST BE WIPED CLEAN BEFORE INSTALLING THE FOAM INSULATORS.
6. Determine the location for the upper foam insulator, Figure 1.
a. Position the foam insulator between the regulator channel and the center bracket, almost resting on the roller wheel.
b. Carefully remove the paper backing from the foam insulator and press it into place.
7. Use a suitable tool to fold the top of the foam insulator down between the glass and the bracket.
8. Remove the two (2) bolts holding the lower guide plate. Pull the guide plate down to make installation of the lower foam insulator easier.
9. Install the foam insulator onto the guide plate as shown in Figure 1. Fold the bottom of the insulator up around the guide plate.
10. Position the slider bracket.
a. Install the lower guide plate bolts, but do not tighten.
b. Slide the guide plate forward, toward the front of the door.
c. Tighten the two (2) bolts.
11. Make sure the rattle has been eliminated by repeating Step # 1.
12. Raise and lower the glass several times to be sure the foam insulators do not contact or rub the roller, cable or channel.
13. Check the glass for proper positioning.
a. Raise the glass to the closed position.
b. Close the door several times to check for proper positioning of the glass to the weatherstrip and blow out clip.
c. Adjust as needed.
14. Install the door water shield and door panel.
