Leakage In the Cargo Storage Area

WATER LEAKAGE IN THE CARGO STORAGE AREA, THE SPARE TIRE AREA AND THE REAR SEAT FLOOR PAN

Close the lift gate and fold down the rear seat backs. The 2nd person, inside the vehicle, uses a flashlight to watch for the source of the water leak. Spray water over the entire rear of the vehicle for at least 15 minutes. If the source of the water leak can be determined, perform an inspection/repair as needed.

NOTE: REMOVAL OF CARGO STORAGE AREA LUGGAGE TRAY, TRIM PANELS, CARPET, SPARE TIRE AND JACK MAY BE REQUIRED FOR IDENTIFICATION AND SOURCE OF THE WATER LEAK.

Figure 11:

The following is a list of possible causes/sources of water leaks into the cargo storage area:

^ Sun roof drain tubes that are not properly routed, pinched, or plugged, Figure 11.

Figure 12:

^ Liftgate electrical wiring harness boot/grommet position to the liftgate and to the body, Figure 12.

Figure 13:

^ Rear windshield washer bottle fill/access cap and tube which are improperly sealed, Figure 13.

^ Rear windshield washer nozzle not properly seated or sealed.

Figure 14:

^ Liftgate weatherstrip out of position, damaged, cut or rail that weatherstrip rests on could be damaged, Figure 14.

NOTE: A LEAK AT THE TOP OF THE LIFTGATE WEATHERSTRIP COULD DRIP WATER OUT AT THE BOTTOM OR INSIDE OF THE END TRIM PANELS, OR INTO THE TAIL LAMPS.

^ Fuel filler tube to quarter panel sealing and proper position.

Figure 15:

^ Liftgate hinge(s) mounting surfaces not flat, loose nuts or missing sealer, Figure 15.

Figure 16:

^ Liftgate side garnish molding "push pins" not seated, missing or damaged, Figure 16.

^ Rear quarter glass to quarter panel sealer skip. This leak can allow water to enter behind the interior trim panels to the carpet in the rear seats or the cargo floor carpet.

Figure 18:

^ Metal end panel that attaches the tail lamps could have sealer skips, pin holes near or at the top of the panel either left or right side. This leak can allow water to enter between the rear trim panels and the tail lamps, Figures 17 and 18.

^ Wheel well sealer skips between the inner and outer panels.

^ Rubber or metal plugs in the spare tire well could be missing, damaged or mispositioned.

^ Side quarter panel storage wells, for the jack or the rear windshield washer bottle, have very small drain slots that allow water to drain. If the vehicle was undercoated or rustproofed, or had been exposed to mud, these small slots could be plugged.
