Disassembly
Exploded View Of Transaxle.:
1. Mount transaxle on bench mounting fixture, tool No. T57L-500-B or equivalent, then remove the drain plug and drain fluid.
2. Remove rear cover retaining bolts, the rear cover. Do not pry cover from case.
Shifting Into 5th Gear, Using Shift Fork & Rod:
3. Remove roll pin with a pin punch, then shift transaxle into 5th gear by pressing the shift fork and rod down.
4. Shift transaxle into 1st gear, then uncrimp tabs and remove locknuts and sleeve.
5. Remove input reverse synchronizer gear, then the main reverse synchronizer gear.
6. Remove shift fork, synchronizer ring, then the clutch hub assembly.
7. Remove synchronizer ring, input 5th gear, needle bearing, then the sleeve and ball.
8. Remove main 5th gear, then the interlock plate and bolts.
9. Remove interlock pins, back-up lamp switch, bolts, springs and balls.
10. Remove transaxle case attaching bolts and reverse idler shaft set bolt, then the transaxle case. It may be necessary to tap case lightly, with a soft faced hammer, to break gasket seal.
Reverse Idler Shaft & Gear Removal:
11. Remove magnet, reverse idler shaft and reverse idler gear.
12. Remove base plate assembly, snap ring, crank lever shaft and crank lever assembly from the base plate.
Reverse Shift Lever Removal:
13. Remove reverse shift lever, the lever set spring and the roll pin from the 3rd-4th shift fork and rod.
14. Remove roll pin from the 3rd-4th shift rod end then the shift fork, rod and rod end.
15. Remove roll pin from 1st-2nd shift fork and rod, then the 1st-2nd shift rod and fork.
16. Remove 5th-reverse shift rod and shift rod end, then the interlock pin from the 5th-reverse shift rod.
17. Remove main and input shaft gear assemblies.
18. Remove differential, then the neutral switch.
19. Remove mainshaft bearing cups, adjustment shims, diaphragm spring and funnel.
20. Remove input shaft bearing cups, diaphragm spring and the adjustment shims.
21. Remove differential bearing cups using stator and driven socket bearing replacer T86P-70043-A, puller T58L-101-B and slide hammer T50T-100-A or equivalents, the adjustment shims.
22. Remove input shaft seal, using step plate D80L-630-4 or equivalent and an aluminum drift. The seal can be removed without splitting the case by using locknut pin remover T78P-3504-N or equivalent.
23. Remove differential oil seals using bearing cup puller T77F-1102-A and slide hammer T50T-100-A or equivalents.
Baffle Plate & Change Arm Roll Pin Removal:
24. Remove change arm roll pin using a pin punch, then the baffle plate, change arm and change rod.
25. Remove change arm oil seal using collet D80L-100-Q, actuator pin D80L-100-G and slide hammer D80L-100-D from the blind hole puller set D80L-1O0-A or equivalent.
26. Remove speedometer driven gear assembly or vehicle speed sensor from the case, if equipped.
27. Remove oil passage, then the breather cover and breather.
