Campaign - Transmission Oil Cooler Corrosion: Overview
To: All Ford Dealers July, 1991
SUBJECT: Owner Notification Program B96 - Transmission Oil Cooler Corrosion on Certain 1990 Probe GT Cars Equipped With Automatic Transmissions
CARES/OASIS - YES
OWNER LIST - YES
PROGRAM COVERAGE - Program service available through July, 1992.
AFFECTED All 1990 Probe GT models equipped with
VEHICLES automatic transmissions built from Job # 1
through July 31, 1990.
NOTE: Less than 75 cars will actually require parts replacements.
REASONS FOR These cars are produced with an engine compartment wiring harness routed
THIS PROGRAM directly over an oil cooler line hose clamp. If the wiring harness contacts the
hose clamp and rubs through the protective cover, battery voltage could corrode
the oil cooler tank. This corrosion will result in loss of transmission fluid
pressure and allow engine coolant to enter the transmission. This would contaminate
the transmission fluid and result in automatic transmission damage.
SERVICE Cars returned for service must have the wiring harness-to-hose clamp clearance
ACTION checked and, if necessary, increased. The radiator and automatic transmission
will also be inspected and replaced if damaged.
REFUNDS When all or a portion of the repair covered by the program is paid by the owner
and/or the dealer prior to the release of the program, both the owner and/or the dealer are
eligible for a refund.
See Warranty and Policy Manual, Section 6.1, Owner Notification Program and Owner Refund,
for additional claims preparation information.
RENTAL CARS If either radiator or automatic transmission
assembly replacement is necessary, DO NOT release the vehicle to the owner.
Ford Motor Company will pay costs (not to exceed $30 per day) associated with
rental vehicles except fuel costs which will be at owner's expense. (Refer to Attachment I).
