Low Coolant Light - Mistakenly Illuminates
90ford37 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER - ELECTRONIC/VMM - "LOW COOLANT" MESSAGE MISTAKENLY DISPLAYEDArticle No. 90-24-7
FORD: 1990 PROBE
ISSUE: The "Low Coolant" light may be mistakenly displayed when the ambient temperatures are about 40~ F (4~ C) or less. The light is active for 1-2 minutes after a cold engine start. This condition is caused by a faulty warning chime module.
ACTION: Install a new warning chime module. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
1. Check the coolant level in the radiator and reservoir to be sure they are correct.
2. Make sure the coolant sensor wire harness is properly connected.
3. Attempt to duplicate the condition with the 40~ F (4~ C) ambient temperature.
4. Make sure the light is working, but do not repair any wiring. Refer to the 1990 Probe Shop Manual, page 33-38-6, and perform Pinpoint Tests MM9 and MM11.
5. If the condition is duplicated in Step # 3 or confirmed, and Pinpoint Tests MM9 and MM11 are OK, install a new warning chime module. Refer to the 1990 Probe Shop Manual, page 33-50-3 for the replacement procedure.
