Attachment III - Technical Information
1990 LX Probe 3.0L V6 Throttle LinkageTechnical Instructions
Inspection
From the passenger side of the engine compartment, look at the two throttle levers and the "U" shaped connecting rod at the throttle body. These levers may be bent, twisted or deformed. The levers and connecting rod may also show nicks and/or scratches (plier or vice-grip marks) on the gold colored plating as a result of straightening the linkage. If any of these conditions are seen, (bent, deformed or having visible scratches on the plating) replace the throttle body as described below. In addition, if no evidence of the above is seen, move the throttle lever slowly from idle to W.O.T. by hand (engine not running) feeling for binding, sticking, or not returning to idle. Cars with any of these indications must have the throttle body replaced.
Throttle Body Replacement
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Loosen hose clamp attaching flex hose to throttle body. Remove air cleaner flex hose.
3. Remove throttle linkage snowshield.
4. Loosen and disconnect all vacuum connections to throttle body.
5. Disconnect EGR valve assembly (if so equipped).
6. Disconnect the throttle linkage.
7. Disconnect Throttle Position (TP) sensor, Air Charge Temperature (ACT) sensor, and Idle Speed Control IS).
8. Disconnect PVC hose.
9. Disconnect fuel rail support brace.
10. Remove six throttle body attaching bolts and remove throttle body. Transfer ACT, EGR valve (or blocking plate), vacuum fittings, fuel rail support bracket, snowshield hold-down bolt, and PFE sensor to new throttle body. Remove dunnage cap from nipple for MAP sensor hose.
11. Install a new throttle body gasket and the new throttle body assembly by reversing the above procedure. Be sure to tighten the six throttle body attaching bolts to 25 N-m (19 lb-ft).
