Subject:

Safety Recall 89S72 - Certain 1990 LX Probe Cars Equipped with 3.0L V6 Engines and Automatic Transmissions for Potential Sticking Throttle Linkage

Affected Vehicles

All 1990 LX Probe cars equipped with 3.0L V6 engines and automatic transmissions produced from Job # 1 through September 7, 1989.

NOTE:
Approximately 2,900 cars are affected by this recall. Of these, approximately 58 are suspected of having damaged throttle body linkage.

Reasons For Recall

On some of these cars, the throttle linkages may have been bent during assembly. If the linkage were damaged, the throttle could stick and not return fully to the idle position after a driver has released the accelerator pedal, creating the risk of a vehicle crash.

To correct this condition, the throttle body linkage on affected units must be inspected and, if necessary, the throttle body replaced.
