ISSUE: A new outer lens kit is now available for service use. Previously, if a lens was damaged or cracked, the complete combination tail lamp assembly had to be replaced.

ACTION: If service is required, install a new outer lens kit. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

NOTE: IF EITHER TAIL LAMP ASSEMBLY HAS MOISTURE CONDENSATION ON THE INSIDE OF THE LENS, REFER TO TSB ARTICLE 90-8-12 FOR INSTALLATION OF A SECOND GASKET.

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Remove the rear combination lamp assembly. Refer to the 1990/91 Probe shop Manual, Pages 32-20-11 through 14, for removal procedure.

2. Remove the attaching screws from the rear of the combination lens. Remove the upper and lower trim pieces, Figure 1.

4. Use a Rotunda Heat Gun 107-00300 or equivalent to apply heat around the outer edges of the lens to melt the glue, Figure 3.

5. Carefully remove the lens cover from its housing. Start at the corners and gently pry the lens away from the housing.

Figure 5:

NOTE: WHILE HEATING THE LAMP HOUSING, REMOVE THE GLUE/SEALER BEFORE THE SEALER HARDENS.

6. With the outer lens removed from the lamp housing, remove the damaged inner pieces from the lamp housing, Figures 4 and 5.

NOTE: THERE ARE 5 INTERNAL LAMP PARTS FOR 1990-91 GT MODELS. THERE ARE 3 INTERNAL LAMP PARTS FOR 1990-91 GL/LX MODELS.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Refer to the parts block and Figures 4 or 5 for correct parts usage depending on model.

Figure 6:

2. Apply silicone sealer (D6AZ-19562-AA) to the housing groove, then firmly press the new outer lens against the housing to allow the sealer to bond together, Figure 6.

NOTE: IF MOISTURE CONDENSATION WAS A CONCERN, SPECIAL ATTENTION MUST BE GIVEN TO THE SEALING OF THE LENS COVER TO THE LAMP HOUSING TO PROPERLY SEAL THE ASSEMBLY. USE OF THE DOUBLE GASKET AS NOTED IN TSB 90-8-12 WILL PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SEALING OF THE LAMP TO THE VEHICLE BODY.

3. Position the upper and lower combination lens pieces and secure them with the attaching screws.

Figure 7:

4. Check the tail lamp assembly for water leaks by immersing the assembly in water. If leakage is observed, apply silicone sealer as needed, Figure 7. (See the above note on moisture condensation.)

5. Install the tail lamp assembly. Refer to the 1990/91 Probe Shop Manual, Pages 32-20-12/13, for installation details.

6. Check all the bulbs to be sure they are functioning properly.
