Valve Cover: Service and Repair
LEFT SIDE1. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plugs.
2. Remove spark plug wire loom brackets from attaching bolt studs.
3. Disconnect crankcase hose from rocker cover.
4. Disconnect alternator harness loom retainers from rocker arm cover studs, then pull injector harness and position aside.
5. Remove two attaching bolts and six studs from rocker arm cover.
6. Remove rocker arm cover and gasket.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Lightly oil bolt and stud threads prior to installation.
b. Apply bead of Silicone Sealer or equivalent at cylinder head intake manifold rail step.
c. Tighten rocker arm cover bolt to specifications.

RIGHT SIDE
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect air cleaner tube from throttle body, then remove plastic shield from throttle body.
3. Disconnect EGR supply tube, if equipped and all vacuum hoses from air intake throttle body.
4. Disconnect ACT sensor, Fig. 6.
5. Disconnect ISC servo.
6. Disconnect TPS, then remove EVP sensor (if equipped).
7. On models with manual transaxle, disconnect throttle cable.
8. On models with automatic transaxle, disconnect throttle valve control cable.
9. On all models, remove fuel rail bracket bolt from throttle body.
10. Remove air intake attaching bolts, then lift off throttle body.
11. Disconnect spark plug wires, then position injector harness aside.
12. Remove rocker arm cover attaching bolts, then the cover.
13. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Lightly oil bolt and stud threads prior to installation.
b. Apply bead of Silicone Sealer or equivalent at cylinder head intake manifold rail step.
c. Tighten rocker arm cover bolt to specifications.
d. Torque EGR supply tube 37 ft. lbs.
