Quick Test Description
The Quick test consists of two sub-tests: Key On Engine Running Test and Continuous Test. Prior to performing either test, an inspection of ABS warning light is required to verify that a fault has been detected by ABS control unit or if system is operating normally. When ABS system is operating normally, the ABS warning light will illuminate during Key On Engine Off and go off after engine has started.
If ABS warning light should stay on after engine starts, this indicates a present failure. Any time ABS warning light flashes, this indicates either a present or past (intermittent) failure. All failures are stored in ABS control unit. ABS service codes are retrieved by identifying voltage fluctuations of a voltmeter connected to ABS test connector.
Service codes may indicate different failures and parting from Quick Test may result in code identification error. It is recommend that the Quick Test procedure be followed completely. ABS warning light mode inspection and ABS service codes retrieval are covered in Quick Test.
Key On Engine Running Test
This test when activated checks ABS control unit and system circuitry by testing its integrity and processing capability, then verifies that the various sensors and actuators are connected and operating properly. Code patterns will be indicated through ABS test connector and ABS warning light will indicate type of failure.
Continuous Test
This test is intended as an aid in diagnosing intermittent failures in the ABS system. It is identical to Key On Engine Running Test, but also allows the technician to enter this mode of test and to attempt to recreate the intermittent failure by tapping, moving and wiggling the harness and/or suspected sensor. If voltmeter indicates a fault, the corresponding code pattern will be indicated. Remember to observe the voltmeter/ohmmeter and ABS warning light for any change which will indicate intermittent is located. Anytime a repair is made, erase ABS control unit memory and repeat quick test to ensure repair was effective. If all phases of quick test result in a pass it is likely the problem is non-electronic related.
