WATER LEAKAGE IN THE COWL AREA

If water leakage is still observed, refer to the 1991 Probe Shop Manual, Section 01-00, pages 2, 3, 4 and 5, for application of sealer to the side of the cowl behind the right front fender. Follow the procedures as described below to seal behind the right front fender. See Figures 6 through 9 for sealer locations.

1. To access the seam areas behind the fender, remove the bolts that hold the fender to the body from the following locations:

^ Two (2) screws behind the right headlamp cover plastic bezel

^ Along the top of the fender

^ Along the "A" pillar

^ At the bottom of the fender to the bottom of the cowl

^ Around the wheel opening

2. Lift the rear edge of the fender and pull it outboard.

NOTE: COMPLETE FENDER REMOVAL IS NOT REQUIRED FOR PERFORMING THE RESEALING OPERATION. THE FIGURES IN THE PROBE SHOP MANUAL SHOW THE FENDER REMOVED FOR CLARITY ONLY.

3. Position a suitable support between the fender and inner panel to allow clearance to the cowl and "A" pillar seams.

CAUTION: USE CARE WHEN LIFTING AND REPOSITIONING THE FENDER TO AVOID SCRATCHING THE PAINT OR BUCKLING THE SHEET METAL.

4. Check for sealer skips at the water leak locations as noted in the Figures on pages 01-00-3, 4, and 5 of the Probe Shop Manual.

5. Blow dry the areas that require re-sealing with compressed air.

6. Seal seams as required with Ford Clear Silicone Sealer (D6AZ-19562-AA).

7. Water test to confirm water leak correction.

8. Attach the fender.

a. Loosely install the attaching bolts

b. Align the fender to the door and hood

c. Tighten the bolts

d. Install the attaching bolts at the bottom of the fender to the bottom of the cowl and around the wheel opening.

9. Install the lower windshield molding, the air intake baffle and the wiper arms. Use silicone sealer as needed to assure proper sealing.

NOTE: IF THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH A SUN ROOF, REFER TO THE 1991 PROBE SHOP MANUAL, PAGE 01-17-3, FOR DETAILS OF THE DRAIN HOSE ROUTING AND INSPECTION PROCEDURES.
