ISSUE
Some 2013 Escape vehicles equipped with electronic manual temperature control (EMTC) and a build date on or before 08/13/2012 may exhibit the climate control system defaulting to defrost when vent mode is selected on vehicle startup. The condition may be intermittent and can be temporarily resolved by cycling the mode switch through each mode clockwise then counterclockwise stopping in each position for a few seconds.
ACTION
Reprogram the Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) Module to the latest calibration using IDS release 81.02 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the IDS 2012.9 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.
WARRANTY STATUS: Eligible Under Provisions Of New Vehicle Limited Warranty Coverage Warranty/ESP coverage limits/policies/prior approvals are not altered by a TSB. Warranty/ESP coverage limits are determined by the identified causal part and verified using the OASIS part coverage tool.
