12/5/2012

ISSUE
Some 2013 Escape vehicles equipped with 2.0L or
2.5L engine and having a build date on or before
12/5/2012 may exhibit an OAT display which is slow
to update.
ACTION
Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release 83.01 and higher. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
NOTE
PLEASE ADVISE THE CUSTOMER THAT THIS
VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ADAPTIVE
TRANSMISSION SHIFT STRATEGY WHICH
ALLOWS THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER TO LEARN
THE TRANSMISSION'S UNIQUE PARAMETERS
AND IMPROVE SHIFT QUALITY. WHEN THE
ADAPTIVE STRATEGY IS RESET, THE
COMPUTER WILL BEGIN A RE-LEARNING
PROCESS. THIS RE-LEARNING PROCESS MAY
RESULT IN FIRMER THAN NORMAL UPSHIFTS
AND DOWNSHIFTS FOR SEVERAL DAYS.
The factory calibration requires the vehicle to be driven continuously for 120 seconds above 32 Km/h (20 MPH) for the OAT to update. This service calibration will reduce the update time from 120 seconds to 75 seconds, at the same vehicle speed, for those customers that are dissatisfied with the original design intent. After 75 seconds of continuous driving above 32 Km/h (20 MPH), the OAT update process will begin, but it may take several additional minutes to match the outside temperature.
