Special Tool(s)

Pinpoint Test

NOTICE: The following Pinpoint Test uses a test light to simulate normal circuit loads. Use only the test light recommended in the Special Tools table at the beginning. To avoid connector terminal damage, use the Flex Probe Kit for the test light probe connection to the vehicle. Do not use the test light probe directly on any connector.

1. CHECK THE WASHER SWITCH FRONT (F_WASH_SW) AND WASHER SWITCH REAR (R_WASH_SW) PIDs (Parameter Identifications)

1. Ignition ON.

2. Using a scan tool, view SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) PIDs (Parameter Identifications).

3. While monitoring the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) PID (Parameter Identification) F_WASH_SW, place the wiper/washer switch into the windshield wiper WASH position.

4. While monitoring the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) PID (Parameter Identification) R_WASH_SW, place the wiper/washer switch into the rear window wiper WASH position.

Do each of the PIDs (Parameter Identifications) change to the ON state when the wiper/washer switch is in the applicable WASH positions?

2. CHECK THE WINDSHIELD WASH FUNCTION

1. Place the wiper/washer switch in the windshield wiper WASH position.

Does the washer pump operate in the windshield WASH position?

3. CHECK THE WASHER PUMP CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: Washer Pump Motor.

3. Measure:

Does the test light illuminate?

4. CHECK THE REAR WASHER RELAY GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Disconnect: Rear Washer Relay.

2. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

5. CHECK THE REAR WASHER RELAY

1. Carry out the Relay- Micro ISO (International Organization for Standardization) component test.

Did the rear washer relay pass the component test?

6. CHECK THE WASHER PUMP CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Ignition ON.

2. Measure:

3. Observe the test light while placing the wiper/washer switch into the windshield WASH position.

Does the test light illuminate when WASH is selected?

7. CHECK THE WASHER PUMP CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A OPEN

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor.

3. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms between the washer pump and windshield wiper motor?

8. CHECK THE WASHER PUMP CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor

3. Measure:

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms between the washer pump and ground?

9. CHECK THE WASHER PUMP CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: Washer Pump Motor.

3. Measure:

Does the test light illuminate?

10. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE REAR WASHER RELAY (COIL SIDE)

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: Rear Washer Relay.

3. Ignition ON.

4. Measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

11. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE REAR WASHER RELAY (SWITCH SIDE)

1. Measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

12. CHECK THE REAR WASHER RELAY

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Carry out the Relay- Micro ISO (International Organization for Standardization) component test.

Did the rear washer relay pass the component test?

13. CHECK THE REAR WASHER RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor.

2. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
